As settings for luxury properties go, they don’t get much more idyllic than Park Hotel Vitznau, on the shores of Lake Lucerne.

The property has 100-year-old walls, with an inviting interior — an extensive renovation has fully embraced the notion of ‘maintaining the past, creating the future’. While leading technology has been integrated into the luxurious decor, a nostalgic charm remains throughout.

All the corridors have been designed as galleries, and each floor is dedicated to one of the hotel’s development projects, such as wine or music. Guests can pick a theme and choose from 47 residences, suites and junior suites, many of which afford panoramic views.

The hotel’s location is, perhaps, only surpassed by its culinary accolades. Named Hotel of the Year 2014 by Gault Millau — the influential French restaurant guide — Park Hotel Vitznau offers two award-winning restaurants. While restaurant focus has 17 Gault Millau points, the more informal restaurant PRISMA has 15 Gault Millau points.

To reach focus, guests pass along six glass-walled wine cellars housing a collection of more than 30,000 bottles and 4,000 different wines. There’s even a champagne cellar.

Inspired by water, nature and the mountain views across the lake, the menus reflect only the best products. In summer, guests dining at PRISMA can sit on the Lake Terrace, on the shores of Lake Lucerne, while in winter, they’re treated to 180-degree views through panoramic windows.

While there are many outdoor activities nearby, including boat trips and swimming in the lake during summer, many residents choose to keep fit at the gym using the Technogym equipment, free weights or medicine balls. Yoga lessons are also on offer and other activies can be arranged on request.

Guests can further boost their energy levels in the spa, which spans three levels. The feeling of space and water is emphasised by both the views and the 39ft-long saltwater aquarium stretching from floor-to-ceiling with over 30 different types of fish. There’s also a 70ft outdoor infinity pool and a Jacuzzi — perfect for enjoying the stunning views.
