Whether it’s a visit for the first or the 20th time, a canal cruise is a must-do when in this beautiful city, renowned for its maze of iconic waterways.

The Blue Boat City Canal Cruise offers the perfect introduction to the Dutch capital. During this 75-minute cruise, visitors can see all the things that have made Amsterdam such an iconic destination for travellers — the warehouses along the canals, handsome Dutch townhouses, colourful displays of flowers and countless bridges arching over the water.

Conveniently located, Blue Boats depart from the Stadhouderskade, which is right in the middle of Amsterdam’s museum district. Before or after a trip along the canals, visitors can explore Amsterdam’s array of world-class museums; the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Moco Museum can all be found within five minutes’ walking distance.

If shopping’s on the agenda, Amsterdam is the ideal place for some serious retail therapy: there are bustling global chains on Liedsestraat and Kalverstraat, or for some high-end buys, P.C. Hooftstraat is the place to go, lined with brands such as Chanel, Gucci and Prada.
All boats are fitted with multilingual personal audio systems, which provide audio commentary in a choice of 21 languages. Not only will guests hear all about the sights, but also about the city’s history and how it grew into the city it is today.

There’s also a Kid’s Cruise package with every children’s ticket, which consists of an activity booklet, a pair of binoculars and a special kid’s audio story in Dutch and/or English. Half of the fleet is wheelchair-accessible, too.

If this isn’t a first visit to Amsterdam, the evening cruise is a must. This after-dark excursion takes in the city’s shimmering waterways and offers an entirely new perspective to a daytime cruise. From the comfort of the luxurious boats with a drink in hand, guests can admire the ever-changing views that pass by. Cosy and romantic, it’s the perfect option for couples, whether in summer, for sunsets over the Amstel river, or winter, which showcases the city in all its twinkling, gold-lit glory.

DON'T MISS

For families with children, the Kid’s Cruise package is the best cruise option in town — and it’s free with a children’s ticket
