The line where Europe ends and Asia begins can seem a little hazy, but not in Istanbul where the narrow strait of the Bosphorus separates the two. Parts of Russia also make up the eastern edge of Europe, which stretches out as far as Portugal, to the west. In between are the Alps, although they’re far from the continent’s only peaks, with the Pyrenees and the Tatras among the other ranges. Beyond the mountains, some of the most impressive scenery is to be found in Iceland, with its volcanoes, geysers and waterfalls, and the fjords of Norway. As for cities, Europe is home to a huge range, from night owls’ paradises such as Berlin to history-heavy spots such as Rome, with ancient ruins right in the centre, to foodie havens like San Sebastián.
