Meet Brian the 'Mini Kangaroo,' One of Many Unknown Marsupials

This is Brian, an eastern bettong from Australia. The eastern bettong is essentially a mini-kangaroo and is not very well known. Brian is shining a spotlight on these pocket-size marsupials … by being an ambassador for the Woodlands and Wetlands Trust in Australia.

The nonprofit organisation rescued Brian three years ago after his mother rejected him. Bettongs aren't just adorable furballs—they're also hard-working gardeners. The omnivores use their long front claws to dig for truffles—their favourite snack—and the holes they dig make perfect spots for seed germination. Brian is the poster child for unknown Aussie animals, giving a name to the nameless.
