Sudan, the Last Remaining Male White Rhino, Has Died

Sudan, the last white rhino male left in the world, has died. He was euthanised after suffering from a severe leg infection, along with an age-related ailment, since last year.

His death leaves the subspecies with only two remaining individuals, and critically closer to extinction. Two elderly females, Fatu and Najin, remain in the protected Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya. Rhino numbers have declined for decades due to habitat loss and poaching.
